Adam Welles Joins Blairwood Entertainment

Adam Welles serves as Senior Sales Coordinator for BLAIRWOOD ENTERTAINMENT, a large library of films worldwide for the distribution sales and intellectual properties manager. Previously, he was V.P. of Worldwide Sales for ICAP MEDIA which licensed films such films as HENRY’S CRIME with Keanu Reeves, and a library of 1000 plus titles for direct to DVD and TV programming. Adam Welles started at Roger Corman’s Concorde/New Horizons film company in 1995 as Director of international sales and was promoted to Vice President of Worldwide Distribution, responsible for sales of feature films with Sandra Bullock, Craig Schaeffer (“FIRE ON THE AMAZON”), David Carradine, Martin Sheen, Paul Bettany, Stephen Baldwin, Jennifer Love Hewitt, author Dean Koontz, WATCHERS 3 and a library of 420 titles, an ongoing slate of 12 new films a year that were exclusively ordered and premiered by and for the Showtime Network. He then went on to be Vice President of Sales for Quantum Entertainment and Fries Film Group, selling international rights for a library of 35 plus films at each componay including a slate of MOWs made for the Lifetime Channel, feature films such as LEGACY with David Hasselhoff, CONTROL with Sean Young, VLAD with Billy Zane, CALL OF THE WILD with Rutger Hauer, SILENCE with Vincent Spano and a theatrical motion picture comedy, NUMB starring Matthew Perry. During this time, he solidified a myriad of sales distributors and theatrical distributors in Europe, South America, and the Far East.

Dude Where Is My Dog to be Released on DVD

Family pleaser DUDE, WHERE’S MY DOG?, which was recently awarded the Dove Certificate by the Dove Foundation, will be released in the US on DVD this week via Red Box. The ubiquitous DVD rental booth will carry 14,000 units, and expects the title to be a top grab this summer.

A howlingly funny movie about two siblings using their dog to bring their estranged parents back together, IN THE DOG HOUSE promises to be a great family movie.

Blairwood Makes Case for the Independent Filmmaker

Speaking at the recent Distribution Unlocked seminar sponsored by the Indie Film Factory in Las Vegas, James Dudelson and Ana Clavell reiterated the need for the independent filmmaker to understand better the business end of filmmaking. During the course of the over two-hour long event film distribution was the central topic, focusing on foreign distribution, along with the key aspects that can make or break a sales deal.Addressing a packed venue, which included filmmaker and UNLV professor David Schmoeller, and Danette Tull of the Nevada Film Commission, the audience was exhorted to pay attention to their shooting budgets , their choice of distributor and quality of their deliverables. “The budget needs to be constructed around actual market sales prices.”, said James Dudelson. Ana Clavell, who has a been post supervisor for many films and series, also spoke about the quality of the deliverables. “No matter how decent your film is, if you don’t have an M&E, or key elements for delivery, it’s likely your sales are going to be very limited.”The importance of a local industry was also addressed. When speaking about DVD sales, James Dudelson believed that “Effective sales are about knowing and catering to your end-user, and that end-user may be right in your backyard.”

MY FAIR LIDY is Now Available on DVD

LGBT feature film My Fair Lidy has hit the DVD stalls (physical and online) with gusto. Viewers are loving the film and, as Amazon.com discovered in their analytics, some have come back to buy more copies to give away as gifts. The story, which deals with the unlikely friendship between a straight blue collar redneck (Christopher Backus) and a gay drag performer (famous drag performer Leigh Shannon), is entertaining and poignant: how do you get your proverbial Joe Blow to transform into Marlene Dietrich and leave behind his prejudices about gays? There are hilarious moments as the main character, Lidy, undergoes a physical transformation to impersonate movie icon Marlene, which he sees as his way to make money.
